Too small to bother?
Hello, I'm here seeking feedback and views on this, because I thought it might mean something. An agency has been sending me all these kinds of small jobs in various subjects on a daily basis. I have accepted the first two, but then I thought it is time consuming and not rewarding at all. I was also puzzled by the fact that they keep coming every day.
I was wondering where this flow of small translations comes from? I mean are they samples for bigger projects and if so why not clearly state so? I am talking about texts less than 100 words in length.

These sound to me like test translations. What may be happening is that they're using their best resources to get the projects, but passing off the remaining translation to a cheaper vendor.
However, I have also had clients who just need snippets translated. For example when a dynamic webpage gets updated and only a small piece need retranslation.
I would ask the client directly, in the spirit of providing a good translation and understanding the end-purpose, what the translations are being used for and if you can expect them to increase significantly.
Even 10 of these wouldn't be uncalled for. I also remember a client who tested me with these for 6 months, at least 2 or 3 a week, before giving me more.
If you're tired of them, but want to keep the client, simply implement a minimum charge.
We send out projects more than once a week containing less then 400 words each, about a wide variety of topics, with up to 7 agencies on each project.
It's all web site changes, database content, document abstracts, etc.
For us the opposite is true, you can't have the update translations unless you have already done significant projects.
